Brunch Bunch

This past weekend my amazing mother came into town to help me do some packing - and by some I mean all.  She's the absolute BEST at packing.  I went to work Friday morning and came home Friday night to my life packed neatly in boxes and bins. Now I must admit I did try to help her out more this time - buying some "packing" materials in advance.  It's not every weekend that my mom comes to visit, so I didn't want to spend the entire weekend in my apartment packing.

In Florida they currently do not have anything comparable to Capital Bike Share.  So, my mom has always wanted to try it out while visiting me.  This Saturday presented the best opportunity to do so - free time, sunny weather, brunch location not too far away.  Momma B and I hopped on our bikes and away we were - heading to Georgetown to meet a friend for brunch.  One thing Momma B also loves is brunching.  I've always heard amazing things about Farmers, Fishers, and Bakers but I've never been there before and was dying to try it.  If you follow Bitches Who Brunch, then you already know it received rave reviews.

After a morning full of shopping, it was time to EAT! We arrived at FFB to a packed house.  When we saw the buffet staring at us we immediately went from hungry to starving.  After about a 15 minute wait we were finally seated.  We sat for about 10 seconds and then be-lined to the food.  Let me try to paint a mental picture for you - there was about 6 different mixed salads and pastas, a freshly made guacamole station with chips and salsa, fresh omelet station, sliced grapefruits the size of my face, a paella station, bananas foster french toast, mini dessert station which featured their famous freshly made caramel popcorn.  OH and if that's not enough - waiters walk around throughout the restaurant passing out samples of sushi, fried coconut shrimp, and eggs benedict. OH AND not to mention that when you sit at the table another waiter asks if you want fresh cinnamon rolls and biscuits at your table....does a bear poop in the woods?? YES we want icing covering our faces immediately! Check out the Bitches blog to see just how large those buns are!

Typically when I make the effort to brunch I almost always go bottomless and/or have a glass or two of champs; however, this time around I did not :( Mother gave up alcohol for Lent (Mom, your crazy but I love you for trying!) and our other brunch companion was in detox mode.  FFB offers this delish looking drink served in what I can only describe as a fishbowl.  No, it's not actually a fish bowl, but to give you an idea, that's how large it is.  I have no idea what was in it but I was dying to try.  They give you these super long straws to drink out of, so I was very tempted to grab my own straw and try to put it in someone else's drink....I didn't actually do that though. At $30 per person, this brunch can't be beat.
Such a beautiful day to brunch on the waterfront in Georgetown

A glimpse of the french toast, fried chicken, grits, and fresh fruit

What's leftover - pretty sure we consumed about 10 grapefruits

THESE!!!

And because I love pic stich!

DIY or BUY?

DIY projects - you either love them or you hate them.  Unfortunately, I'm not the greatest at them, but I recently have had such an urge to do one.  My friend and I send each other about 5 new DIY projects daily but have yet to start one.  That might change this weekend though!

My friend's great about finding the best DIY posts on Pinterest and then adding them to her board.  I stole a few ideas from her to share here.  They look manageable and easy enough right?? One quick trip to Michael's and Home Depot, and I'm on my way to becoming the next Martha Stewart.

Had to start off with a little bubbly! I want all of my champs bottles to be adorned in sparkles!

Looks fairly simple - get a large letter and hot glue gun different fake flowers on it

ROLL TIDE! The Pinterest description reads: Use plastic toy elephants, gold spray paint, and driftwood to make a place to hang your keys....genius!

Iron on's might be the coolest and most simplistic DIY project - all you need is the article of clothing, the iron on, and an iron
Bucket bags are back! Loving this inexpensive version from Old Navy - thinking I might use leather dye and create a mint green ombre effect?  Fingers crossed

Spring Has Sprung

Well kind of.  It's still pretty chilly out right now - but I am definitely looking forward to basking in the 71 degree weather that's supposed to hit us on Saturday.  I might wear a swimsuit all day just for the heck of it.

With the warming temperatures, comes the excitement of what lies ahead - concerts, baseball, summer weekends spent poolside, and so much more.  I looked to Pinterest today for some new spring inspiration - lots of pastels, sparkles, and mint juleps.  Hope you are just as excited for spring time as I am!

Loving this Asos dress and all things floral this season!
Cherry Blossoms!! Kind of a huge deal in D.C.

I have no idea why this reminds of spring, but it does.  Love that it's a DIY shelf.

PASTELS! Mint green might be my fav this spring, so this Ted Baker bag is spot on.

I currently have a collection of pink Kitchenaid appliance going so naturally I became very excited when I saw this ice cream station - the sprinkle station is like icing on the cake
My all time fav sunnies - these Ray Bans scream spring and summer!

This is my beach wear inspiration - love the casual/comfy/cute mix of this whole thing

Over It All

Before reading this post, you have to mentally swear to yourself that you won't judge me.  I know you'll want to immediately after reading this, but try not to.  When I think about my style I think it varies, depending on my mood - preppy, conservative, risk taking, long hair - don't care, all black, highlighter pink - you name it, I've probably worn it.  I try not to focus on trends, but more so what fits me and what looks good on me.  NG once gave me the nicest compliment - she said I dress according to what looks best on me.  I take that as a compliment because that can be very difficult.  Do I love that long, flowy metallic skirt? Yes I do - but I won't buy it because it will sit in my closet for the simple reason that it doesn't work on me.

One article of  clothing I have recently become obsessed with again are.....overalls.  I know, I know - I shouldn't, but I can't help it. The sad thing is I actually picture myself wearing them during certain life events.  A while back I saw an instagram photo of a model wearing overalls while taking a tour of a Virginia vineyard, and from there on out it's become my mission to get a pair.  Will I look like my 13 year old self again or like I'm heading to herd cattle on the ranch in New Mexico?  Probably, but as I mentioned above, long hair don't care.  I'm snapping those babies in and heading out the door.

SIDE NOTE: Whenever I wear anything leather (which is every other day), PR always makes jokes about me hoping on motorcycle and going for a spin.  Over/under on the odds that when I wear my overalls he will say: "Where's your horse? Heading to the ranch?"

Great price point - especially if I decide to wear these Forever 21 overalls a total of 3 times

Zara does distressed denim so well
Love how these Lulu's overalls are cuffed just above the ankle and how they paired them with heels!

Comin In Like a Gladiator

Spring is SLOWLY creeping in - okay very slowly, but I still get excited about the thought of warmer weather, sun tans, and sandals.  Being a Florida and moving up north provided me with the opportunity to step up my boot game and I'm grateful for that.  But now I'm ready for my feet to free and to transition into sandal mode.

Making its rounds again this spring/summer are the gladiator sandals.  Thanks to Bloomingdales, I recently found some amazing options I'm lusting for. Strap on your shoes ladies because it's go time!

Loving the gold accent of these Sam Edelman sandals
Can you tell I love black and gold together? Oh and studs? ASH Oasis

The studs on the straps make these even better! Tip of the cap to you Edelman

Because why the hell not - if you're going to go gladiator, go all the way! Stuart Weitzman

I have absolutely no idea where I would wear these beautiful Michael Kors gold wedges, but I have a feeling everywhere!
